Frank Argote-Freyre is a Research Fellow and Ph.D. candidate in history at Rutgers University. His dissertation, Fulgencio Batista: The Making of a Dictator is based on archival research in Cuba and the United States. The first volume of his Batista biography is scheduled for publication in 2004. As part of his research, he conducted a series of oral history interviews concentrating on events of the prerevolutionary period of Cuban history. He served as Assistant Editor of CUBA, An Illustrated Encyclopedia, scheduled for publication in 2003. Prior to entering academia, Argote-Freyre worked 10 years as a journalist followed by a three-year stint as a press secretary in the United States Congress.
