Yolanda Pri­eto is a Pro­fes­sor of Soci­ol­ogy at Ramapo Col­lege of New Jer­sey. Her work has focused on the Cuban migra­tion to the United States, with par­tic­u­lar atten­tion to the the role of women. She has pub­lished exten­sively on Cuban immi­grant women’s expe­ri­ences in Hud­son County, New Jer­sey: their labor force par­tic­i­pa­tion, gen­der role adap­ta­tions, gen­er­a­tional dif­fer­ences. More recently, Dr. Pri­eto has stud­ied the role of reli­gion in the migra­tion process and the evolv­ing rela­tion­ship between Catholics in Cuba and in the dias­pora, includ­ing the impact of the 1998 Papal visit to Cuba on Cuban Amer­i­cans. At present, she is writ­ing a book about the ori­gins, devel­op­ment, and trans­for­ma­tion of the Cuban com­mu­nity in Union City, New Jersey.
